GENDER
Gender refers to the socially constructed relations between men
and women, boys and girls.
.It is about how people relate to one another within a
particular social context.
Gender relations are shaped by socio economic institutions
governing labour allocation and resources
entitlements; by social cultural norms, which define gender identities and by
the scope for representation of gender interests within the political and legal
institutions.
These factors interact to create a specific pattern of gender
differentiation and inequality.
GENDER EQUALITY.
Gender Equality refers to the equal
access and control over the resources.
. It is concerned with the promotion
of equal opportunitie"s and fair treatment for
men and women in the personal, social, political and economic arenas.
Gender Equality entails that the underlining causes of discrimination are
systematically identified and removed in order to give women and men equal
opportunities.
COMPOSITION OF THE GENDER
DIVISION
The gender division within the
department is composed of a Gender
Focal Person which forms part of the
Directorate-Corporate Service
PURPOSE
The Departmental Gender Division was established to ensure that
the department support democracy by promoting, protect and monitor gender
equality within the Department.

DEPARTMENTAL COMMITMENT
The Department is committed to create an institution free from
gender discrimination where employees shall enjoy the opportunities and the means
to realize their potential regardless of gender, race, class, religion or
disability.
FUNCTIONS OF THE GENDER
FOCAL PERSON
Develop and Implement the
Departmental Gender Policy
Review and amend the gender
policy accordingly.
Ensure that the department
adheres to gender equality in accordance with the Employment Equity Act.
Ensure gender sensitive
policies by reviewing existing and monitor new departmental policies.
Promote gender awareness.
STRUCTURE
The Departmental Gender Division forms part of the
National Gender Policy
Framework.
